Dr. Giesy owns an adjoining dental practice, Giesy Family & Implant Dentistry, and was selected to join the International Branch of TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre to help people overcome their discomforting symptoms of TMJ disorder and sleep apnea.
From the start of Dr. Giesy's practice, he has always had one goal in mind: Deliver the highest quality care to patients based on their personal needs and desires. He accomplishes this by asking, listening, learning, sensing, and then satisfying your dental care needs, wants, and values.
Dr. Giesy married his high school sweetheart Michele. They have two beautiful twins, Katie and Tanner. The Giesy family enjoys family movie nights, golf, and watersports. Born and raised in his hometown of Tacoma, Washington, Dr. Giesy loves the Pacific Northwest and is in love with the community around him. Most of all, you will not find a dentist more passionate about making your first impression your best!
‘‘The sleep appliance is easy to wear and has not effected my sleep at all. I feel rested. I feel awake. I'm no longer dozing at traffic lights. I'm very grateful to tell anybody I have something that works, and it's easy to use."
Steve, Actual Sleep Apnea Patient
Located in Tacoma, WA, Dr. Giesy explains conditions of the Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are almost always structural in nature, making this a medical condition. Traditional care treats symptoms instead of finding and treating the cause and primarily uses medication and physical therapy to provide symptom relief. Unlike these treatment approaches for a palliative care/pain management, Dr. Giesy determines the origin or cause of your symptoms through comprehensive and diagnostic evaluation. Then, he provides the ideal therapeutic care modality for the rehabilitation of the injured structures.
The technique employs treatment therapy to damaged structures (TMJ joints) providing with custom designed orthopedic appliances (orthotics) to rehabilitate and restore structural problems and orthopedic function (chewing, swallowing) as well as improving breathing and resolving related symptoms.
First, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation to identify the main source of your symptoms and direct the appropriate treatments for maximum medical improvement (MMI).
Then, we’ll identify any other issues or diagnoses that may effect MMI.
Once evaluated, you and Dr. Giesy will plan a treatment plan accordingly. This could include TM therapies, Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), or combined treatments.
Then, we'll design and deliver the appropriate orthopedic appliances based on your diagnosis.
From there, we’ll monitor and manage your treatment for about 12-14 weeks. You’ll come into our office every few weeks, and we’ll evaluate your progress and provide additional direction for: compliance in appliance wear for maximum improvement, necessary referrals for maximum improvement, necessary physical medicine for maximum improvement, appropriate nutrition/supplement/medication for maximum improvement, and appropriate recall evaluations for monitoring and management of patient care.
